FIELDIQ · SET THE FIELD

Read the batter. Back your bowler.

Set your field for the batter’s strengths and the bowler’s plan. Decide where to stop runs and where to take a catch.

Select a fielding position or use the list. The close catching inset enlarges the same positions without changing their spacing.

Slips sit behind the batter on the off side; gully is wider. Move closer or farther back according to how far the edges carry.

Position guide and sources

The pitch and restriction area use one metre scale: 20.12 m between stumps and a 27.43 m restriction radius. Named positions are typical locations, not mandatory coordinates. Catching depth changes with pace, spin and ball carry. The illustration uses a 75 m ground radius; a real ground may be asymmetric.
